Hi

My name is Jonathan and have just started setting up my bookkeeping practice. Must admit I am very excited but also very nervous at the same time. For example, is it me or does it feel that my brain is exploding from looking at the MLR. I understand the main responsiblities (E.G Forms to fill in and what to generally look out for) but do you have to remember everything in the MLR?

Also may seem a stupid question but perhaps some more experienced self employed bookkeepers can help!! Do you fill in the Client Risk assessment and due diligence forms in while conducting the first interview with the client. (Again it may be an obvious answer but surely you would need to obtain the relevant evidence and details from them?) Any advice would be very much appreciated

Thanks

Jonathan

I have prepared a 'new client form' with all the questions that I feel I need to cover at the preliminary meeting.  If you look at the ICB online MLR document this will show you what you really need to know with regards to MLR.

I try to at least cover all of the top half questions at the first meeting.  I also explain that I will need a copy of the necessary id's to comply with MLR legislation, and usually request this in my contract letter which I send after the preliminary meeting.  The bottom half of the ICB online MLR page can be completed later.

I have personally found the online MLR to be a big help, as I also found the forms quite daunting.

Hope this helps.
