It looks like it has been set back yet again, it was supposed to be this week. I called the ICB but apparently there is still no news on when it will be.

This is becoming a never ending tale of woe.

Perhaps someone at the ICB can gives us all a definite timetable and what it will allow us to do.

Hi Adrian & Ruth

I too share your frustrations with the delay to level 4 exams however please bear with the ICB they are doing their best.

There have been and are some major and ongoing changes internally with moves towards ofqual and various other projects etc etc.

Kind regards
Stuart

Thanks for that and I appreciate that ICB are doing things to resolve the matter.

I think it is the lack of information/updates that is the annoying and frustating part.

Hi,

Can I just support Stuart in his response. I think it could be viewed in terms of "growing pains". As Stuart says, the goalposts appear to have been moved recently (to our longterm advantage), and therefore the Institute needs to consider various elements prior to some restructuring and realignments. Though the wait may be frustrating, I'm sure you will find it worth waiting for.

When these matters are finally resolved, will there be a notification regarding the standard achieved before the Level 4 can be taken?
I have CB Dip and PM Dip, is this sufficient ?

I'm not sure the PM Dip is relevent for taking Level IV - although it is required to become a Fellow.
I don't think the CB Dip will be sufficient - I think you'll need Manual Bookkeeping Level III as well.

Thanks for the update.

For me - like Adrian - it is the lack of communication that is very frustrating. We were told it would be available this week and it simply hasn't appeared, I'm sure I wouldn't feel quite so annoyed if we'd been told it had been delayed again.

Do you have any idea what sort of delay we're talking about? 1 week....1 month....6 months....1 year??

I agree about a lack of communication.  I seem to remember similar when M-day was initially being discussed.

I'm hoping to do level 4 during my summer break from college, I hope it's ready in time.

It would be nice if all members and associates were advised at the same time as the fellows!!!

I think we're now entering the realms of make believe.  I think we'll find pixies and fairies in our gardens before this happens.

I think you will find everybody is advised at the same time.

You may find certain members not just Fellows but MICB and AICB's may be more in the loop at thimes than others as they may be members of the various working groups that deal with these issues.

There have been two meetings recently at the ICB offices that I have been involved with that covered a range of topics one was the Fellows meeting and the other The Regional Chair's meetings.

Also when these questions are posed I take the time to speak to the various people at the ICB to try and find an answer.

a senior member of the ICB was also at the London Branch meeting last night and we discussed this very topic, the problem we face is no-one is booking in for the mock only one person so far the lack of take up means it is being given a lower priorty than other issues.

Kind regards
Stuart

Hi all,

Well answered Stuart, was going to put exactly that here.

The Fellows are a type of working group themselves. They have been with the ICB for many years, done all the examinations, and most are invovled with other professional bodies, councils etc, and so make a good group to bounce ideas off before they are released to the masses.

We have had feedback that people are waiting for the actual exam to be released before they try the mock. Makes sense, don't want to get geared up for it, then wait 2 months for the actual exam.

I have pinged a message to the qualifications department to put an update out.

Thanks for that Stuart and James. Perhaps it would be worth setting up a forum that deals with notes of meetings etc then it would be down to the members to look at it. I appreciate that should confidential things be discussed these should be excluded.

I am not really surprised that nobody is taking the mock. James is totally correct on that point.

Equally what is the point of purchasing the text books until one is sure that the exam is going to happen in a reasonable length of time.

Thanks James and Stuart.

It was me that did the mock (last Thursday, in preparation for doing the real thing this week), I was going to do the other one soon after but I am waiting now.

I have all of the textbooks for IV, but am not prepared to sit the mock until the real examination is available. So I can understand why take up has been so low.

To undertake an exam is a lot of hard work and hours of study and at the moment I cannot see a light at the end of the tunnel as to when we will actually get there. I just dont want to start studying if there's no end in sight.

But did you pass Ruth??? Smile

I totally agree with Sarah.

James did ask the qualifications department to issue something on 1st March and as Stuart said in his posts it was discussed at the London Meeting.

Is there some sort of secret here as this only appears to come up when some of the members mention it.

Come on please keep us all informed.

well done to Ruth Smile just the real thing to do now (when it finally arrives)!!

I would also like to know if there will be any exemptions from some of the modules - eg an exemption from the personal tax element if you have already passed the Level III Self Assessment tax exam - and an exemption from Module 1 for ACCA or CIMA qualified students?

Thanks !

Sarah

Also - I was just wondering - I bought my textbooks last year for Business Tax & Personal Tax, surely they wont be relevant for much longer with changes in tax legislation?

I emailed the ICB asking about the ACCA and exemption, and I have been advised on the following exemptions;

  • F5 = ICB Level IV Management Accounting module
  • F6 = ICB Level IV Personal and Business taxation modules
  • F7 = ICB Level IV Drafting Financial Statements module.

The actual papers are now live: http://www.bookkeepers.org.uk/Shop/Category/Examinations

You can do a mock here: http://www.bookkeepers.org.uk/Shop/Category/Mock_Assessment_Online/Level_IV_modules

Good luck to all!
